Internships
Our internship program is designed to offer a taste of the many ways you can build a career in bird conservation. We offer internships that focus on everything from banding birds, to environmental education, avian research and monitoring. Interns can expect lots of hands-on experience and opportunities to grow as budding biologists, educators and natural resource professionals. We can also work with universities and colleges to offer internships for course credits. Click the internship project descriptions below for more information about each opportunity.

Mexican Spotted Owl Monitoring

Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is excited to host two Siegele interns in 2025 in partnership with the Colorado Natural Heritage Program. Our internships are ideal for individuals who have a strong passion for wildlife and are looking to gain field experience. Interns will primarily work alongside field biologists to conduct nighttime surveys for Mexican Spotted Owls in National Forests across Arizona, Colorado, and New Mexico. Interns will gain avian survey experience, hone field skills (e.g. backcountry camping, navigation, etc.), and learn about owl ecology, study design, and occupancy monitoring. Bird Camp Intern
We are looking for one Bird Camp Instructor intern to help with our day and overnight camps. This role will run from May 21, 2026 through August 7, 2026 as a full-time position encompassing approximately 400 hours total through the 10 week term. In this time the intern will join in on a week long staff training that encompasses preventative protocols, meets state licensing requirements and provides hands-on training for the programs to be run throughout the course of the internship. Pineridge Banding Station Intern
This position is full for the spring 2026 season.
The Banding Intern assists the Fort Collins Education Manager at the Pineridge Banding Station with banding birds, data management, station set-up/break-down, and leading field trips.
