Community Science

Part of our work at Bird Conservancy is providing you with opportunities to make a difference for birds in the communities where you live. Click below to explore some of our programming where you can get involved and make a difference!

Bald Eagle Watch

Bird Conservancy of the Rockies’ Bald Eagle Watch program was started in 1988 to monitor and help protect the Bald Eagle nest at Barr Lake State Park, northeast of Denver. Now, community scientists with Bird Conservancy monitor eagle nests across the Front Range to provide information to biologists on the nesting success of the Colorado population.

Eastern Screech Owl Monitoring

Bird Conservancy of the Rockies’ is using the power of community science to study Eastern Screech-Owls along the Cache la Poudre River in Fort Collins. Data gathered through the project is used to inform possible habitat enhancement and restoration sites along the river.

Urban Owl Nest Box Project

Despite their immense charm and contribution to healthy ecosystems, owls are understudied – especially in urban areas. With help and support from community volunteers, we hope to learn more about how urban environments impact Eastern Screech Owls’ ability to survive and thrive along the front range - and how we can better share our cities and suburbs with them. Our Urban Owl Nest Box Project is a way to get involved with local conservation and research right in your backyard!
