Christmas Bird Count for Kids

January 12, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm MST

$3

Join environmental educators from Bird Conservancy of the Rockies for a Christmas Bird Count held especially for kids! This event gets budding birders involved in the celebrated tradition of annual bird counts; started by the National Audubon Society more than 100 years ago to encourage bird conservation.

Program at-a-glance:

Participants will be divided into groups and then set out to explore Barr Lake State Park and count every bird they find. There will be alternative bird-related activities for younger participants who may not want to or be able to walk the park. At the end of the day, we will gather to compile our data and celebrate with snacks and warm drinks! Participants should wear comfortable hiking shoes, dress in layers and bring a picnic lunch, binoculars and a field guide (if possible). Loaner binoculars and field guides will be available.

Cost is $3 per person plus an $8 per vehicle state park entrance fee.

All ages are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Kids younger than 4 are welcome but do not need to register.

Pre-registration is required. Click here to register online.
