Full-time Positions:

Wildlife Habitat Biologists – (Alamosa, CO, Rocky Ford, CO, east-central MT)

We are hiring THREE Wildlife Habitat Biologists (biologists) to deliver habitat conservation projects on private lands in the grasslands of east-central Montana, in Colorado’s San Luis Valley (SLV) in Alamosa, and the eastern plains in Rocky Ford, Colorado. These positions are a partnership between the US Department of Agriculture – Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Montana, Fish Wildlife and Parks (MTFWP)/Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW), and Bird Conservancy of the Rockies. The biologists will help agricultural producers improve wildlife habitat and achieve their management objectives by developing comprehensive conservation plans and coordinating implementation (e.g. infrastructure for water and fence improvements, working with landowners on prescribed grazing plans, and streambank stabilization and revegetation in SLV Colorado etc.). These positions will be jointly supervised by Bird Conservancy and NRCS. The Montana position will be based in the Terry or Jordan NRCS field office (with work out of both locations), and the Colorado positions will be based in the Alamosa NRCS field office and the Rocky Ford NRCS field office and require travel throughout the respective regions using a provided vehicle. The biologists will work with federal, state, and local natural resource professionals and will use voluntary, incentive-based funding opportunities (e.g. Farm Bill) to implement conservation and collaborate with a variety of partners in these areas. Seasonal Positions:

Seasonal Internship – Bird Camp Intern (Female, to assist in overnight girls cabin supervision)
The Bird Camp Intern supports and assists the Camp Manager in all aspects of overnight summer programs.  This role will run from May 23, 2024 through July 12, 2024 as a full-time position encompassing approximately 280 hours total through the 7 week term. In this time the intern will join in on a week long staff training that encompasses preventative protocols, meets state licensing requirements and provides hands-on training for the programs to be run throughout the course of the internship. Avian Field Technician (Colorado)
Experience a season of adventure counting birds every morning in Colorado with the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program! You’ll travel across the state from low elevation pinyon-juniper, sagebrush and grasslands, to mid-elevation conifer and aspen forests to high-elevation alpine tundra. Surveys occur on private and public property, including U.S. National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service lands. You will get to observe an impressive variety of species and explore scenic areas such as Summit County, the San Juan Mountains, Rocky Mountain National Park, and the Comanche National Grassland. You’ll come away with a deep and intimate appreciation for all Colorado has to offer. This position will have you birding every morning with the possibility of observing well over 100 bird species as well as many other species of Colorado wildlife. Avian Field Technician (Utah)
Experience a season of adventure counting birds every morning in Utah with the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program! You’ll experience a variety of habitats: from deserts and canyonlands, to sagebrush, conifer forests, and high mountains. Surveys occur on private and public property, including U.S. National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service lands. From the deserts and red rock canyons, to the forests and alpine environments of the Wasatch and Uinta ranges, you’ll experience all the amazing landscapes Utah has to offer. This position will have you birding every morning with the possibility of observing well over 100 bird species as well as many other species of Utah wildlife. Avian Field Technician (Wyoming)

You’ll travel across the state from low elevation sagebrush and grasslands, to mid-elevation conifer forests to high-elevation alpine tundra. Surveys occur on private and public property, including U.S. National Forest, Bureau of Land Management, and National Park Service lands. From the Eastern Plains to the Wasatch Range, the Bighorn Mountains to the Wind River Range, the Tetons to Yellowstone, and all the sagebrush sea in between, you’ll come away with a deep and intimate appreciation for all Wyoming has to offer. This position will have you birding every morning with the possibility of observing well over 100 bird species as well as many other species of Wyoming wildlife. Avian Field Technician (Northern Great Plains)
Experience a season of adventure counting birds every morning with the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program! You will work in Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota on both public and private lands and will move North and up in elevation through the field season. You will work in a vast range of elevation and habitats and have an excellent opportunity to explore the Great Plains and Black Hills. This position will have you birding every morning with the opportunity to see Great Plains as well as western montane birds. Avian Field Technician (Southern Great Plains)
Experience a season of adventure counting birds every morning with the Integrated Monitoring in Bird Conservation Regions (IMBCR) program! You’ll travel north with the spring through the western portions of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska. Surveys occur mostly on private land in a variety of habitats including mesquite bosques, prairies, and riparian systems. You’ll get to observe an impressive variety of species as you move across the study area, including Painted Bunting, Cactus Wren, Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, Burrowing Owl, Mississippi Kite, Scaled Quail, and Lesser Prairie-Chicken. Avian Field Technician (Southwest)

You will work throughout Arizona and western New Mexico on public and private lands moving from lower elevation to higher elevation throughout the season. This position will have you birding every morning with the possibility of observing Southwestern rarities such as Elegant trogon, Rivoli’s hummingbird, California condor, Gila woodpecker, Yellow-eyed Junco, Painted redstart and many more. Spend 3 months coordinating a monitoring project on National Forests in Arizona. All field work will be conducted with appropriate federal permits. Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is seeking one crew leader that will each steer a small team of three technicians to conduct Spotted Owl surveys. This position will build leadership, management and mentorship skills while working on a charismatic federally-threatened species in the heart of its range in Arizona. Board of Directors
Bird Conservancy of the Rockies is looking for talented, energetic candidates to join its Board of Directors. Volunteers should have a commitment to and interest in conservation. Though headquartered in Brighton, Colorado, our reach includes the western United States and Mexico, so candidates within and outside the Front Range of Colorado are eligible. The Board meets quarterly, typically in the Denver-metro area.
